Security Operatives Comb Kano Forests

Security operatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as local vigilantes and hunters have begun joint operations to clear Falgore forest and other forests in Kano State.

The development comes barely one week after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje visited the service chiefs and sought assistance to help the State secure the forests from bandits whom he said were gathering in the forests.

In a statement on Wednesday, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, said troops of 1 Division were working in conjunction with other security personnel to ensure the return of socio-economic activities to the area.

According to him, the ongoing clearance operation was aimed at making sure bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements from neighbouring states do not infiltrate Kano.

“Consequently, we wish to reassure the good people of Kano State of the safety of their lives and property. And, also urge them to continue to report suspicious movements of strange individuals or groups in their vicinity to the nearest security agency for prompt action.

“The NA in close cooperation with all the stakeholders on security is determined to ensure a full return to normalcy in Kano State and other adjoining states,” Yerima said.

A woman, whose husband is unemployed, has reportedly given birth to 10 babies in Pretoria, South Africa.

Before setting the new record, Gosiame Thamara Sithole, the woman, who is from Tembisa Township in Ekurhuleni of the Gauteng province of South Africa, had been delivered of a set of twins, who are now six years old.

Her husband Teboho Tsotetsi has been reported as saying that she was delivered of seven boys and three girls through Caesarean section 29 weeks into her pregnancy.

“It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” The Pretoria News quoted him to have said.

Sithole’s husband said they were astonished by decuplets after scans only showed eight in the womb.

One South African official confirmed the births to the BBC, however another said they were yet to see the babies.

BBC quoted a family member, who did not want to be identified, as saying that Ms Sithole had had 10 babies – five via natural birth and 5 via caesarean section.

iol.co.za, a South African website, quoted Sithole as saying that two of the babies could not be detected initially because they were inside the wrong tube.

In an interview during the latter part of her pregnancy, she reportedly said the pregnancy period was tough.

“I am shocked by my pregnancy. It was tough at the beginning. I was sick. It was hard for me. It’s still tough but I am used to it now. I don’t feel the pain anymore, but it’s still a bit tough. I just pray for God to help me deliver all my children in a healthy condition, and for me and my children to come out alive. I would be pleased about it.

“How would they fit in the womb? Would they survive? What if they came out conjoined at the head, in the stomachs or hands? Like, what would happen? I asked myself all these questions until the doctor assured me that my womb was starting to expand inside. God made a miracle and my children stayed in the womb without any complications,” Sithole had said.

Her unemployed husband has decided to do away with fear and embrace the children.

A woman who had eight babies in the US in 2009 currently holds the Guinness World Record for the most children delivered at a single birth to survive.

Last month, 25-year-old Halima Cissé from Mali gave birth to nine babies, who are reportedly doing well at a clinic in Morocco.

Multiple births involving more than three babies are rare and often the result of fertility treatments – but in this case the couple say they conceived naturally.

Gov. Ishaku Assures Taraba Students Of Disbursement Of Scholarship Soon

Gov. Ishaku Assures Taraba Students Of Disbursement Of Scholarship Soon

Taraba state Governor, Darius Ishaku has assured indigenous students of Taraba state to expect the disbursement of their scholarships soon.

This came on the heels of his recognition as the best governor in education Thursday by a national daily.

The Governor spoke Friday in Jalingo, the state capital during the official inauguration of the newly elected executive of Student Union Government, SUG, and Student Representative Council, SRC of Taraba state University.

Ishaku who was represented by his Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Ibrahim Imam said efforts at delivering the governor’s promise of disbursing scholarships to indigenous students from the state has reached an advanced stage.

According to him, “ Taraba state government is doing so much on education and I want to assure you all that student’s scholarship would be paid to you soon.

“The leadership of National Union of Taraba State Students, NUTASS, knows how far we have gone on this and I assure you that our students would get it.”

He further called on the new executives of both SUG and SRC to conduct themselves responsibly and desist from activities that would hinder their graduation.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Vincent Ado-Tenebe, frowned against students’ disregard for the anthem of the tertiary institution.

The VC who was represented by the Dean of the institution’s Student Affairs Department, Dr. Rebecca Iranum, lamented that it was unfortunate that students can’t recite the school’s anthem.

He charged the new executives of the SUG and SRC to at all times recite the school anthem alongside the national anthem during their activities.

According to him, “you must learn the anthem of Taraba State University. By doing so, you are not only representing the institution but also telling outsiders that there is something good about this institution.

“This is where you belong and you need to make people know the value of this institution.

“For the new executives, the welfare of every student is now your priority and you must lead with empathy and inclusiveness.

“You should also know that you are not an island, but must at all times wear the garment of humility.”

The President-Elect of the SUG, Enock Sanda in his address promised to work for the good of the institution.

He also assured the institution’s management of the cooperation of the SUG to take the university to an enviable height.
